While cameras turned toward disasters across the world, in the heart of Northeast India, 12 districts and 528 villages of Assam were quietly drowning. Relentless rains turned rivers into monsters, submerging homes, destroying crops, and claiming many precious lives.

In the middle of this crisis, one name began echoing across relief camps, volunteer groups, and even government corridors: Dr.Ashma.
Despite personal challenges and countless odds, Dr.Ashma has emerged as a shining example of humility, courage, and service.
At a time when many stayed away, she chose to walk toward the flood.
On the Ground, Not Just in Words
From the first reports of water entering villages, Dr.Ashma mobilized support and led teams of volunteers directly into the worst-hit areas. Starting this week, she & her team has been visited flood-affected communities across Assam — wading through water, sitting with families who lost everything, and ensuring relief reaches those forgotten by the headlines
“Flood has taken many lives,” she says quietly. “But a little help, a little support, and a blessing can still bring a small hope, and a small smile, to someone’s face.
That belief has driven her work. Drove 10 hrs ,from her place to flood effected area ,Food packets, drinking water, medical aid, and dry clothes were distributed. But beyond material help, it was her presence — listening, comforting, and standing with people in their darkest hour — that gave families strength.
Recognized for Selfless Service
What makes this effort remarkable is not just the scale, but the spirit behind it. Despite facing her own hardships, Dr.Ashma refused to step back. Her humility and relentless hard work have not gone unnoticed.
The State Government of Assam has acknowledged her contribution to grassroots relief. Media organizations covering the floods have highlighted her as a citizen leader who turned compassion into action.
In a significant recognition, the Hon’ble Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, also appreciated her dedication and service to flood-affected people, calling it “a true example of public service and humanity.”
An Example for the Nation, and the World
In an age of advanced science — where we send people to space and plan missions to other planets — Dr.Ashma reminds us of the most fundamental human value: to show up for each other.
She is a Director of University & chairperson of World Women Organisation, No big machinery. Just will, volunteers, and an unwavering belief that no one should fight disaster alone.
Her work is proof that leadership is not about position. It’s about purpose.
As Assam begins the long road to recovery, Dr.Ashma continuous her work on the ground. She calls upon citizens, organizations, and well-wishers across India and abroad to come forward.
“Donate. Volunteer. Pray. Share. Every small act matters.”
